CTIA Theming & Wayfinding

About the Project

I was commissioned to lead the theming and wayfinding design for the Terminal 2 Redevelopment Project at Cape Town International Airport. The process began with understanding the users; who they are, what they need, and how they move through a space. From there, I considered the interior architecture and asked how we could create a travel experience that felt uniquely Cape Town and authentically South African. The narrative I developed began with nature as the arrival point and concluded with the people of South Africa as the final impression at departure. This thematic arc helped guide the emotional and spatial journey of the airport experience. Working in close collaboration with DesignScape Architects, who handled the structural interior design, I mapped out user flows and developed a cohesive wayfinding system that was both functional and visually integrated. Although the project was ultimately halted due to Covid, the work remains a strong example of strategic, story-led environmental design.
